If any one wants to weigh in on my proposed choices, great, but for now, knowing I have to upgrade my existing NVidia 1280 x 1028 graphics card that will deal with as much as 1920 x 1200 resolution in my monitor to be.

As far as calibration goes, I have a Spyder 4 Elite and it'll just have to do for now.Īnd, the solid and welcome advice and recommendations from Pictus notwithstanding, I'm not going to be concerned about flicker until and if it happens. Based on advice from all over, including friends and this forum, I think I've narrowed down the modest monitor upgrade, within my budget (up to $400 for the monitor alone, and excluding the eventual additional cost for a new graphics card) to six: the Dell U2412m (but I'm a bit concerned about reported inconsistent QC) the NECs e243WMI, ea 234WMI or ea244WMI (but I'm not sure if these sub-professional monitors carry over any of the quality and reliability elements of their professional P and PA brethren, and there are few, if any reviews of the entry-level NECs in the context of photo-editing) the Asus PA248q (which has a nice set of mixed reviews) and the EIZO ev2336 Flexscan (which seems to have no reviews and may be living in the reflected glory of its higher-priced models, much like the entry-level NECs).
